Waiting

The waiting is the hardest part, sang Mr. Petty through the speakers into Charlie's ears sinking deep in the back of his mind. He wondered how meaningful those words were to Mr. Petty, or indeed any words of any given pop/rock song with a personal depth, to its author.
"Do these goddamned bastards really mean it? Do they really know? Or are we, the somewhat unaware audience, just playing the fool?" The ever so gullible tormented public always in search of answers and explanations. Were the Sex Pistols really that annoyed and angry as that prick Rotten seemed to be? Were The Smiths the desperate souls they seemed to be in their records? Did Thom Yorke really thought he was a creep? Or was it all part of an elaborate marketing scheme to give the audience and the fans what they want to hear, because the fans are real people, and real people do feel tormented, sad, lonely, lost, angry and, sometimes, like real goddamned creeps?.
In this very moment Charlie realized he was at it again. "For fuck's sake! Here i go again into the ever so typical god forsaken downward spiral of an ever so typical late Sunday afternoon, this time complete with an added flavour of extra cinicism. Snap out of it! Yes Mr. Petty, the waiting is indeed the hardest part".
Waiting is one of the most important occupations of human kind. We even created "waiting" rooms to that effect. Now that's really calling things by their real names! Go figure!
We do seem to be constantly waiting for something. For the end of the morning, for the end of the day, for the end of the week, for the end of the month and the sweet pay day. Waiting for vacations, waiting for the end of the year in order to get monumentally pissed because the long wait is finally over and a new year has arrived. A new year which we hope and wait for better things.
Basically i guess that everyone simply isn't satisfied both with time and space where they're living in. That's the tragedy of our times.
A tragedy that becomes more and more hard to bare as the Lost Art of Waiting is becoming more and more lost through these Mach speed times in which we live. The gentle art of knowing where and how to wait, just waiting with confidence seems to be condemned to disappear indeed. "We want it, and we want it now", seems to be the common motto for these days. And it's really quite difficult to be able to escape this train of thought, because it is indeed a train, and it's riding fast.
So fast that Charlie felt he too was caught in it. Sometimes it seems that one can't afford to stop or else one will be left behind forever.

The waiting is the hardest part
Everyday you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

Hehe, waiting rooms. How true. :-))

Quite right reflections there. Here are my two cents on the topic. ;-)
